What to Expect During Your In-Home Newborn Session With a Longmont Newborn Photographer
Bringing home a new baby is incredible, overwhelming, and completely life changing—and the idea of adding a photo session into the mix can feel like a lot. I get it! Between feedings, naps, and figuring out your what your family’s new rhythm is, it can feel like one more thing on your already full plate.
But here’s the good news: in-home newborn sessions are designed to be simple, gentle, and completely centered around you and your baby! Thats the BEST part!
As a Longmont and Firestone newborn photographer, and a momma myself, I’ve built my sessions to be laid back and extremely low pressure—because I know exactly what those early days feel like. So if you’re wondering what to expect when I show up to your home for your newborn session, here’s a little peek into how the experience works…
The best part of an in-home newborn session?! You don’t have to go ANYWHERE! No packing bags, no worrying about nap schedules, no racing the clock to get out the door, which with one is hard and if you have multiple kiddos, forget it lol. You get to stay in your space, where baby feels most at ease, and I come to you.
We’ll use natural light and the spaces that feel the most “you”. Sometimes that’s your bedroom, the nursery, or even that cozy corner in the living room where you’ve been soaking in the snuggles. Where you and baby spend most of your time, thats where we want to be!
This isn’t the kind of session where your baby has to be asleep the whole time or folded into poses (If in-home newborn sessions aren’t your jam and you want a posed newborn session, I would encourage you to look for someone who is certified). My approach to in-home newborn photography in Longmont is natural and baby-led. That means we go with the flow—if baby needs to nurse, rocked, sang to, or take a break, we take it.
There will be lots of cuddles, lots of deep breaths, and moments of connection that will be authentic to your family! I’ll gently guide you into those beautiful, connected moments that will naturally unfold.
There’s absolutely no worries if baby is awake, fussy, or just wants to be held the whole time. That’s real life, and that’s what I love to document. Some of my favorite images come from those in-between moments—baby gripping your finger, snuggling up on your chest, or stretching out on the bed.
These are the images that feel like home.
This is the #1 thing moms ask me about, and I always say the same thing: don’t stress about the mess.
I only need one or two well-lit areas, and I can help move anything we don’t want in the images. Whether the laundry basket is full or the dishes didn’t get done—none of that matters! What matters is the love in your home and the moments unfolding right in front of us.
When you book your in home newborn session in Longmont with me, you’re not doing it alone. I’ll help you choose outfits (comfy is always best!) and share tips on what photographs well in your home. I also have a client guide with some of my favorite shops (including https://ryleeandcru.com/, https://pitterpattershop.com/ & others), that you get in your booking proposal that is full of helpful info so you feel prepped and ready ahead of time!
Above all, this session is about you—your story, your love, the special moments that make your family yours. I will never expect perfection. I only expect real life! The yawns, the feedings, the quiet little sighs. The shushing in the corner, the rocking and swaying, the singing… You don’t have to perform or pose. Just love on your baby and let me take care of the rest.
If you’re expecting a new baby and are considering in-home newborn photography in Longmont, Firestone, or Northern Colorado, now is the perfect time to get your session on the calendar! I recommend booking your session during your third trimester so we have plenty of flexibility when baby arrives.
I’d love to help you preserve this incredibly special and very fleeting season in a way that feels easy, beautiful, and true to only you and your family.
