The Invisible Work of Motherhood (and Why You Deserve to Be Cared For, Too) From a Longmont, In-Home Newborn Photographer
As a Longmont motherhood photographer (and a momma myself) I see the selfless love unfold in front of my lens all the time. The sleepy snuggles. The toddler on your hip while you prep a bottle. The way you look at your baby like the rest of the world just stops spinning.
We don’t talk about it enough—the way becoming a momma quietly reshapes every part of your life. The way you stay up just a little later folding laundry so your kids have clean jammies. The way you warm up your coffee three times before finishing it. The way you plan meals, manage naps, remember every appointment, soothe every scrape, and hold space for every big feeling in the house.
Motherhood is full of quiet, invisible sacrifices—and most days, those don’t make it into the baby book.
But here’s the thing: those sacrifices matter. They shape the rhythm of your family’s days. They are the heartbeat of your home.
But I also see what doesn’t always get captured: you putting yourself last. And while I know it comes from a place of love, I want to gently remind you of something really important:
And not just the kind you squeeze in after everyone else is taken care of. I mean true, full-hearted care… The kind that actually fills you back up!
With knowing all of this, I wanted to write a blog post specifically for mommas on ways to nourish yourself in the midst of all the sacrifice:
Don’t wait until your hair is done or the baby is sleeping through the night. Book the session. Get in the photo (yes, even the photos that dad takes when you’re sitting on the couch). Let your children see what love looked like on you! Because one day, these images will mean the world, to them and to you.
Pro tip: If you’re in Longmont or nearby (Firestone, Berthoud, Boulder, Erie), in-home sessions are the perfect low-pressure way to get beautiful, authentic photos without the stress of packing everyone up!
Whether it’s your partner doing the grocery run or your neighbor walking the dog, receiving help is not weakness, it’s wisdom. You weren’t meant to do this alone! Especially not in the early newborn days when sleep is rare and emotions are raw and all over the place!
Even if it’s ten minutes of sunshine on the porch or a solo coffee run through Ziggi’s or Ozo, carving out space to breathe is essential. These tiny moments of rest aren’t just “nice”—they’re fuel.
That could be a walk around McIntosh Lake with your baby in the stroller, a visit to Pitter Patter in Louisville for something sweet and cozy, or even booking a maternity session just because you want to remember how it felt to grow this little life.
The house doesn’t need to be spotless. You don’t need to lose the baby weight or buy a matching outfit set. You just need to be there… that is enough!
Momma, you’re doing so much. And while your sacrifices may feel quiet, they are profound. If you’ve been looking for a sign to give back to yourself… to celebrate your motherhood and capture the love in your home… this is it!
If you’re in Longmont, Colorado or surrounding areas and want to document this sacred season, I’d be honored to come alongside you!
Let’s tell your story together—exactly as it is.
